A federal agency has identified the remains of a soldier from Union City, Tennessee who went missing during the Vietnam War.

The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency identified Lt. Richard Clive Lannom who was a  bombardier/navigator aboard an A-6A intruder that went on a strike mission against enemy targets in North Vietnam. The aircraft failed to return following the mission and search and rescue efforts failed to locate the crew.

Lannom’s remains were recovered in 2017 but were identified via forensic analysis in late 2018. Lannom is memorialized on Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. He graduated from Union City High School in 1959 and joined the U.S. Navy from Tennessee.
