Carbondale, IL – Southern Illinois University officials blame the sluggish economy for a continued enrollment slide this fall at SIU's Carbondale campus. Enrollment is down a little over 300 students from a year ago. The Associated Press reports this marks the fifth straight year enrollment has gone down at SIUC. President Glenn Poshard says the economy has taken a toll on student attendance despite the university's best efforts to limit the drop.
