Springfield, IL – The U.S. Department of Agriculture says that, despite significant progress last week, Illinois farmers were only a little more than halfway through their corn harvest before the latest heavy rains.
But the USDA says about 90% of the soybean crop had been harvested. About 52% of the corn crop had been harvested as of Monday compared to 31% a week earlier, but that is still well behind the 87% at this time last year and a five-year average of 95%. The five-year average for the soybean harvest by this date is 99%.
