Martin, TN – The University of Tennessee-Martin has installed a new alert system for student and staff safety. WCMT Radio in Martin reports the system includes outdoor speakers across campus, similar to a tornado warning system. UTM Public Safety Director Scott Robbins says voice announcements can also be made over the new system, which is aimed at reaching the campus community quickly in emergencies. Many other universities, including Murray State, have set up similar systems. The technology costs about ten thousand dollars.
