Brookport Garbage Concerns

By Chris Taylor

Brookport, IL – Some Brookport, Illinois residents are upset about a new garbage contract after the outgoing waste disposal company claimed its competitors will charge more. Mayfield-based CWI distributed fliers to customers after the city awarded a five-year contract to Harrisburg-based Bulldog Service, Inc. In the new contract, Bulldog will offer a lowered price on commercial service but includes a higher residential rate in the last three years of the contract. According to the Paducah Sun, Brookport Mayor Judy Askew says initial savings over the first years will offset the slightly higher rates of the last ones and the city can get ahead to cover the increase later. Askew says while she's mayor, the increased rates will not be passed to residents.
