Frankfort, KY – A bill to ban texting while driving in Kentucky has cleared another legislative hurdle today. The House approved the measure 80 to16. The bill makes it illegal for Kentucky drivers to send or read text messages from a moving vehicle. Democratic state Rep. Jody Richards of Bowling Green sponsored the bill. Richards believes the legislation could save lives if enacted. Nineteen states and the District of Columbia already have similar laws in place. Another 10 states restrict texting by novice drivers. The Kentucky legislation also bars teenagers under 18 from using cell phones while driving. That prohibition doesn't apply to adults.
