Frankfort, KY – Look for budget talks in the Kentucky House to intensify this week. The legislative session is entering its sixth week, and Speaker Greg Stumbo wants to move the budget out of the House by early March.
"I'm hopeful that we'll be able to keep to that timetable. But I do think, as President Williams says, it's important that we come to agreement on what I call the global picture of what assumptions on the revenue side, how we're going to fill in these gaps that we know are existing. And then we can start doing what we always do and that is talk about a lot of the policy issues that surround the budget."
Stumbo hopes to make some budget outlines public later this week. Legislative leaders have already rejected Gov. Steve Beshear's budget plan based on revenue from casino gambling.
