Frankfort, KY – A budget bill could be finalized within the next week in the Kentucky house. Members today expect to learn of possible solutions to a projected one and a half billion dollar shortfall in state revenue. House speaker Greg Stumbo says some longer term savings could come from re-organizing Medicaid. He's been told the prescription drug program in Oklahoma is a billion dollars cheaper than the one in Kentucky.
"Why don't we have a generate drug system that really works? Why do we allow more than four prescriptions? Why don't we push over the counter sales when that's a viable alternative and why do we have a pretty liberal program for enhancement drugs?"
Stumbo admits Kentucky has an older population as compared to Oklahoma and that could account for some of the difference, but not a billion dollars.
