Murray, KY – An estimated 200 people turned out to Murray State's Curris Center Saturday night to support Kentucky's republican candidates at the Jackson Purchase Lincoln Day Dinner. Among the attendees were Kentucky House candidates Corey McBee and Monti Collins, and State Senator Ken Winters. U.S. Representative Ed Whitfield delivered the keynote address, touching on hot-button issues like the coal industry and health care legislation.
"As I look up and I see that picture of Abraham Lincoln, I do recall one time he made the comment that, You have to take a stand on important issues, put your feet firmly on the ground, and don't back up."
U.S. Senate candidates Bill Johnson, Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson, and Rand Paul also took turns at the podium. All three are vying for the republican ticket in the November election to fill the seat being vacated by U.S. Senator Jim Bunning. Kentucky's primary elections take place May 18. You must register by Monday April 19 to be eligible to vote in the primaries.
