Paducah, KY – McCracken County schools yesterday began uninstalling the computer software that tracks lost or stolen laptops on the nearly 2,200 units assigned to its high school students. The move comes after a school in Pennsylvania was accused of using the technology to spy on students, allegedly taking webcam photos in their homes. Technology Director Heath Cartwright tells the Paducah Sun the software can track the laptop's IP address, monitor what's on its screen and take a still photo through the built-in Webcam, but it would never be used to monitor behavior.
