Clarksville, TN – Scores of birds are falling dead in a Clarksville, Tennessee subdivision near I-24 Exit 11. One resident says she counted as many as 60 dead birds in the area at one point. Tennessee Wildlife Officer Dale Grandstaff tells the Clarksville Leaf Chronicle the redwing blackbirds and grackles are flocking to the area in groups ranging from thousands to millions on their southerly migration. Grandstaff suggests the birds are dying by electrocution from power transformers, saying many of the birds' corpses are found beneath power lines. Several of the dead birds have been sent to a Nashville agriculture lab to determine their cause of death.
