Paducah, KY – Several medical professionals agree 37-year-old Kevin Wayne Dunlap's brain is abnormal. The Paducah Sun reports his sentencing jury heard testimony yesterday from three area doctors. Western Baptist Hospital Radiologist Eric Shields testifies Dunlap has a mass of blood vessels the size of a ping pong ball in his brain's right frontal lobe. Murray-Calloway County Hospital Neurologist Christopher King says that part of the brain allows a person to make responsible social decisions and the abnormality could cause personality changes and memory problems. Paducah Neuropsychologist Michael Nicholas says it is also responsible for controlling inhibitions, but agrees with a Correctional Psychiatric Center finding that Dunlap is competent to stand trial and knows right from wrong. Dunlap pleaded guilty to killing three Trigg County children and raping their mother. Prosecutor G. L. Ovey is seeking the death penalty in the case.
