Springfield, IL – Illinois Governor Pat Quinn won't say yet what kind of income tax increase he may propose to close a state deficit his budget office estimates at about $11.5 billion. Quinn says his plan will probably have some refinements from the proposal he pushed last year. He had proposed a 50 percent income tax rate increase at that time, but the plan went nowhere. Quinn says he won't back down from a tax increase even if House Speaker Michael Madigan and Illinois Senate President John Cullerton ask him to because it's an election year. Quinn says it's his job as governor to do what he thinks is right for the people of Illinois.
