House Speaker Promotes Construction Projects

By AP

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky House Speaker Greg Stumbo says he hopes a jobs-creation effort can be part of the state budget proposal that House leaders are crafting. Stumbo says the House leadership spending plan could possibly include higher amounts in bonds for construction projects than Governor Steve Beshear proposed. In his budget plan submitted in January, Beshear proposed $1.5 billion in general fund bonds for construction projects that he said will create jobs for Kentuckians. The governor also proposed $300 million for additional highway construction projects.

Stumbo says House leaders are looking at a variety of construction projects on roads, sewers and schools. He says it's an ideal time to do the projects because interest rates and construction costs are low compared to a couple of years ago.
