Stumbo upset at KCTCS lobbying

By Tony McVeigh

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky House Speaker Greg Stumbo is perturbed about the amount of money the community college system is spending on lobbying this session. The system's marketing budget for radio and TV ads, placards, T-shirts and buttons seen around the Capitol this session and at a community college rally Thursday is one-point-three million dollars.

"It's pretty disingenuous to me when they raise tuition and they come over here and they ask for significant funding levels - and we've always been fair to postsecondary education in my opinion - but it's pretty disingenuous to do things like they did yesterday and spend that kind of money."

Stumbo and Senate President David Williams continue to defend two percent cuts to community colleges and universities, saying in tight budget times, there must be shared sacrifice.
