Metropolis, IL – A national trade organization is threatening to sue the city of Metropolis, Illinois if the municipality goes ahead with a proposed waste flow control law. The National Solid Wastes Management Association wrote a letter to the city saying local governments are prohibited from requiring non-residential waste hauling customers to use a franchise hauler until 15 months after awarding the franchise and it must follow a public hearing after 30 days. The Paducah Sun reports the city's five-year contract with Mayfield, Kentucky-based CWI, expires next month. City Aldermen tabled a motion last week to seek bid proposals for commercial and residential trash hauling, pending further review. The national trade organization represents CWI, which recently lost a hauling contract in nearby Brookport to Harrisburg-based Bulldog Systems.
