Frankfort, KY – We may see a final budget plan from Kentucky House leaders today, but it won't restore full funding to the universities.
The budget plan unveiled almost two weeks ago cut university funding by $40 million over the biennium. House Speaker Greg Stumbo says some of that will be restored, but not all. "Instead of the 2%, which we initially looked at, that would be less than that by about $5-6 million. So, they could get that in the first year."
In the second year, Stumbo says about $10 million could be restored to the universities. Once finalized and drafted into bill form, the budget plan will get a hearing before the House Appropriations and Revenue committee. A House floor vote on the budget is still expected sometime next week.
