Clarksville Soldier Sues The Hurt Locker Makers

By Chris Taylor

Clarksville, TN – An Army bomb disposal expert from Clarksville is suing the makers of The Hurt Locker, claiming the Oscar-nominated film's lead character is based on him. Master Sergeant Jeffrey Sarver says he was cheated out of any financial proceeds from the film. His attorney filed the suit in New Jersey federal court yesterday. The Clarksville Leaf Chronicle reports Sarver claims screenwriter Mark Boal was embedded in his three-person unit in Iraq in 2004. That led to an article based on Sarver published the following year in Playboy magazine. Sarver alleges Boal later adapted that article to a screenplay, which the filmmakers now claim is based on fictional characters.
