Metropolis, IL – Massac County, Illinois has a new Democratic Party chairman. Sheriff candidate John Barr replaces longtime chairman Larry Douglas, who welcomes the change. Barr says he wants more people involved with the party after only six filed for committeeman seats out of the county's 17 available. He tells the Paducah Sun he hopes the county's outnumbered democrats will increase their participation in party work and show up at the polls. Douglass says Barr will serve as a good replacement and his connections all over southern Illinois will make him a good fit for leading the party.
