Sexting bill pending

By Tony McVeigh

Frankfort, KY – Time is running out on hundreds of bills in the 2010 Kentucky General Assembly. Only 14 days remain in the 60-day session, and final action is still pending on the sexting bill offered by Rep. Martha Jane King. The bill unanimously cleared the House on March 3rd.

"I'm just doing the best I can to encourage everybody to hear the bill. And I'm talking to every senator I can, saying help me get the bill out. Because I think it's worthy of being a bill. I think it's worthy of their vote. So, hopefully they will."

The bill addresses the growing problem of minors using cell phones to transmit nude photographs of themselves to others. Another bill still awaiting final action prohibits texting while driving. The measure, sponsored by former House Speaker Jody Richards, sailed through the House on February 4th. Both bills remain lodged in the Senate Judiciary Committee, where they've seen no action.
