Frankfort, KY – The Kentucky Senate has unanimously approved it's version of Amanda's bill. The legislation allows judges to order electronic restraining devices in domestic violence cases. The senate amended the bill to specify a violation of a domestic violence order must occur before a GPS ankle bracelet can be required. Senate minority floor leader Ed Worley believes this legislation should not be considered the final say
"It certainly is good work and it is a good start that as we move forward we can amend this bill and revisit this issue and in time we'll get this thing right to deal with an unthinkable problem that exists in our society."
Senate president David Williams called it a good day for the senate to pass the bill and, in his words, recognize the scourge of domestic violence and the fact that we need to try to do something about it.' The measure is named for state employee Amanda Ross. Former state lawmaker Steve Nunn awaits trial for killing Ross. The bill now goes back to the house where members will consider senate changes.
