Frankfort, KY – Legislation that would lift Kentucky's ban on construction of nuclear plants has melted down in the House after easily passing the Senate. The bill has been stalled in the House Appropriations and Revenue Committee since January. Democratic Committee Chairman Rick Rand doesn't expect the bill to be called for a vote in the current legislative session. Rand expects lawmakers to look at the issue during an interim period leading up to next year's legislative session. State law prohibits nuclear power plants from being built in Kentucky until the U.S. has a permanent storage facility to contain the nuclear waste.
