Paducah, KY – After a tour of Paducah Middle School yesterday, Governor Steve Beshear's Chief of Staff Adam Edelen vowed to get behind a lobbying effort to build a new facility. Edelen was shown many of the school's deficiencies, including: how its campus is three times smaller than the state requires, several hallway walls have holes exposing pipes and wiring, classrooms are too small, stairways too narrow, and how its proximity to the highly trafficked Lone Oak Road could be a danger to students. Edelen tells the Paducah Sun need should be the deciding factor in funding school projects; not politics. The school has been classified as a Category 5 facility for five years now, yet was left out of a Democrat-led House spending plan that proposes funds for many schools ranked with less need.
