Illinois – Illinois Governor Pat Quinn is facing criticism for not choosing Art Turner as his preferred running mate. Turner, an African-American who has served the Illinois House of Representatives for nearly three decades, came in second in the February primary for lieutenant governor. Primary winner Scott Lee Cohen stepped down amid questions about his past. Quinn announced today that he wants Sheila Simon for the position. Simon is the daughter of the late U.S. Senator Paul Simon. Quinn responded to black criticism by saying voters know he's on their side and that Simon's family fought for civil rights. The Democratic Party State Central Committee has the final say, and meets Saturday to make the official pick.
