Paducah, KY – City and county officials are in preliminary discussions with a company about building a rail-to-barge coal terminal near Paducah. Paducah Mayor Bill Paxton says a company is considering reviving the terminal proposal and adding a small coal-to-liquid fuel plant that would employ up to 120 people.
McCracken County Judge-Executive Van Newberry declined to comment on an economic development meeting last week, saying it was held in executive session, locking out the public. Newberry also would not say if it involved a coal terminal.
The possible rail-to-barge terminal is similar to a plan that died in 2007 and 2008 when McCracken Fiscal Court denied requests by Ashley Four Rivers and Southern Coal Hauling to rezone about 300 acres near the former Tyler Mountain Water plant, which closed last year.
