Frankfort, KY – Highly publicized domestic violence legislation will probably fail to survive this legislative session. Amanda's Bill would allow judges to order GPS monitoring devices in some domestic violence cases. The senate judiciary committee approved a slightly different version than the one approved by the house. With time in the session short, senate committee chair Tom Jensen says a publicly negotiated compromise is no longer possible.
"I'd rather let the public and all the people be aware of what we're doing than to just do it behind closed doors and I'm afraid that's where we were going."
Jensen says the issue deserves further study and requires what he calls a whole new process.' Amanda's bill is named for former state employee Amanda Ross who was murdered last fall outside her Lexington apartment. Former state representative Steve Nunn stands accused of the crime.
