Hopkinsville, KY – A Hopkinsville man was injured Tuesday after the gas pedal of his Toyota Yaris became stuck while backing up, accelerating to 30 or 40 miles per hour before overturning in a ditch. 58-year-old Thomas Mayton claims the gas pedal stuck and he was unable to control the vehicle. Toyota recalled a series of 2009 and 2010 models, but not the Yaris. Police tell the Kentucky New Era they inspected the gas pedal and it appeared to move normally, but any objects which could have also caused it to stick were not in the floorboard because the car had flipped over.
