Cadiz, KY – A bill that would allow Cadiz to become a fourth class city awaits Governor Steve Beshear's signature. The measure, sponsored by Representative John Tilley of Hopkinsville, passed the Senate last week. As a fourth class city, the measure would allow Cadiz officials to levy additional taxes on alcohol and give them the freedom to pass liquor by the drink. Senator Ken Winters of Murray helped moved the bill through the legislature. Winters says his sponsorship wasn't related to alcohol sales. His focus was promoting downtown development, and giving the city more access to state resources. A spokesperson for the governor's office says Beshear has until the middle of next week to sign the bill.
