Frankfort, KY – Governor Steve Beshear has signed into law a bill that sheds more light on two groups representing locally elected officials in Kentucky. The legislation stems from highly publicized scandals involving questionable spending by the Kentucky Association of Counties and the Kentucky League of Cities. Under the measure, the two organizations will be subject to Kentucky's open records and open meetings laws. It will require them to follow strict ethics guidelines, undergo annual audits and post their spending, budget documents and audit reports on a public Web site. Both groups are funded primarily by public money.
