Paducah, KY – The Western Kentucky Correctional Complex in Fredonia is now housing over 100 female inmates and another hundred are expected by the end of the week. Deputy Warden Steve Woodward says the facility's transition to house females instead of males will run through the fall. About 100 male inmates are still being housed there as they finish the spring planting at the prison's 2,000-acre farm. Woodward says they will then go to facilities across the state. The transition follows Governor Steve Beshear's mandate to close the privately owned, corporate-run Otter Creek prison after multiple allegations arose of sexual misconduct by male prison guards.
