Nashville, TN – The Tennessee House has passed a proposal that expresses opposition to federally mandated health initiatives. The resolution proposed by Republican Representative Susan Lynn was passionately debated for more than an hour yesterday before passing 66-29.
Most of those opposed to the measure say it's unnecessary and outdated because of the passage of President Barack Obama's health care overhaul legislation.
But Lynn says the resolution is needed to send a message to the federal government. However, considering the thousands of Tennesseans who would receive insurance because of the reform, Democratic Representative Kent Coleman says that would be a "bad message."
