Nashville, TN – Tennessee's general fund tax collections have fallen about $9 million short of expectations in March. The tax collections reflect economic activity in February. Sales tax collections, which account for two out of every three tax dollars in Tennessee, missed projections by $14 million. But corporate franchise and excise taxes came in at more than $8 million above estimates. The state's general fund has missed projections by $205 million through the first eight months of the budget year. State Finance Commissioner Dave Goetz says the economic activity in February may "reflect a degree of renewed consumer confidence, but revenues continue to lag below projections."
