Frankfort, KY – Kentucky's Governor not ready to talk about any special legislative sessions. Steve Beshear still believes legislative leaders can work out a compromise budget this week. Leaders from both houses early in the session dismissed the Governor's budget proposal because it relied on an expansion of gambling. Today reporters asked the governor if he's responsible for the budget impasse.
"The only reason that my budget didn't fly is because they didn't have the courage to enact it and I know it would have taken some courage to step up and create some recurring revenue through slots at the tracks but it was by far the best proposal to come out of this whole process."
If it comes to a special session, Governor Beshear says it will probably come before June. Beshear was asked if expanded gambling might be on a special session agenda. He responded, at this point, he has given that no thought.
