Metropolis, IL – Metropolis Illinois city council members discussed the city's ongoing sewer overflow problems. City representatives including Mayor Billy McDaniel met with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency last week to present their long term control plan to mend the city's problem. Last year the city recorded 46 overflows, leaking millions of gallons of combined sewage and rainwater into the Ohio River. The city's ultimate goal is to eliminate any combined sewer overflows. The city council must have the I-E-P-A's approval before any major physical changes are made to the sewer system.
