Fort Campbell, KY – Another Fort Campbell unit is getting ready to leave for an upcoming deployment to Afghanistan. The 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, cased its colors during a ceremony Friday at the post.
Nearly 20,000 soldiers from the division are deploying this year to Afghanistan and some are part of the military's troop buildup to quell the insurgency there.
This will be fourth deployment for the 1st Brigade Combat Team since 2001 and the unit's first deployment to Afghanistan. Another of the division's units, the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, has already arrived in eastern Afghanistan.
