Princeton, KY – The Kentucky Legislature's general session has ended without lawmakers reaching a consensus on the state's 2 year budget. Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear is expected to call the Senate and House back for a special session sometime in May. Princeton Representative Mike Cherry says work needs to happen now.
"Of course I expect a budget to come out of it and I would expect the basic agreements to be reached before we go so we can do it in the shortest possible amount of time, so we can have a five day session. And when we are of one accord we can do it in five days."
The Senate Republican majority and the Democratic House, Cherry says presents obvious partisan conflict. Cherry speculates the special session will be mid May. The special session costs Kentucky tax payers $60 thousand per day.
