Golden Pond, KY – Land Between the Lakes is scheduling more prescribed burns for later this year and early next to some 10,000 more acres of forest. LBL Spokesperson Nicole Bull says many of the new burns are intended to boost wildlife-friendly oak and hickory tree populations by taking out some of the young shade-tolerant tree species like maples. It also eliminates some non-native and invasive species. LBL uses the controlled burns as a tool to provide positive habitat renewal that once came with wildfire.
