Frankfort, KY – Testing begins this week in Kentucky public schools where about 500,000 students will take the Kentucky Core Content Test in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. The results will be used to determine whether students are meeting federal math and reading standards under the No Child Left Behind Act.
Several schools are hoping to meet all their academic goals for a second straight year, meaning they would no longer be labeled a "failing school" and subject to sanctions. Testing will last through May 21st.
The state decided to extend the student testing window into the third week of May because of problems some districts have had with snow days and swine flu absences.
