Cadiz, KY – The city of Cadiz is considering a liquor by the drink ordinance. Mayor Lyn Bailey says the ordinance is under review by the city attorney, and is not available to the public yet. Bailey says the city council has reviewed the measure, but the first reading isn't expected until the first week in May. The General Assembly passed a resolution this session to reclassify Cadiz from a fifth class to a fourth class city. As part of the change, Cadiz can collect taxes from liquor by the drink sales. Trigg County Attorney H. B. Quinn says the reclassification also opens up the possibility of liquor by the drink in the county. The county will not need to change its alcohol ordinance though, because the current law already allows restaurant alcohol sales. Quinn says restaurants that qualify may begin selling liquor by the drink after the classification change goes into effect July 1.
