Bardwell, KY – A Hopkinsville man will get a new trial after the Kentucky Supreme Court reversed his murder conviction. Twenty-nine-year old Desmond Snorton was sentenced in 2008 to thirty years in prison for the 2006 death of Marty McKinney. Snorton's appeal alleged Circuit Judge C. A. Woodall erred in denying the defense's request to impeach the testimony of three witnesses. Snorton also alleged his case should have been moved to a different county. The Supreme Court agreed on the first claim, but disagreed on the second. Justice Bill Cunningham dissented in part, and wrote that Snorton's trial was conducted fairly. Snorton's retrial is in Caldwell County Circuit Court. A judge will likely set a date for the trial at a conference scheduled for May 4. Snorton has been returned to the Caldwell County jail, where his bond is set at five hundred thousand dollars.
