Hopkins County Schools Details Job Cuts

By Chris Taylor

Madisonville, KY – Hopkins County School officials plan to cut 14 teachers and nine classroom aides from its payroll because of enrollment decreases and the lack of a finalized state budget. Superintendent James Lee Stevens says many of the cuts hinge on the budget and some positions may be called back. The Madisonville Messenger reports among the positions on the chopping block are: four basic classroom teachers, two reserve teachers, two assistant principals, six special education positions and nine classroom aides. 33 other classroom aides will have their hours reduced. Stevens projects the school systems' enrollment for the next academic year to be about 6,800 students.
