Frankfort, KY – Kentucky state government is asking broadband users to take part in a statewide internet survey. Users can log on to a state website that will check their location and connection speed. The information will be used to develop a map of internet access and quality in the commonwealth. Finance Cabinet spokesperson Cindy Lanham says the call for users to participate in the survey went out Thursday and the response has been strong so far.
"People get the idea that their input is needed to make decisions that could impact economic development, they could impact their local school district, and impact their homes and their businesses."
The survey is funded with a $2.1 million stimulus grant. Lanham says once the map is created, it will be used to create a plan for improving access. That plan will be used to apply for more federal funds.
