Tennessee Schools Race to the Top

By Angela Hatton

Clarksville, TN – Regional Tennessee school systems are getting their cut of federal Race to the Top money. Clarksville-Montgomery County School System will receive $1.2 million. The money is a yearly allotment for four years. Spokesperson Elise Shelton says they may only use the money for new programs and teacher training, not for their overall operating budget. Shelton says the system has made $9 million in cuts for the coming school year. The Paris Post Intelligencer reports Henry County School System will receive $700,000, and Paris Special School District will get $350,000. School systems have a little over two months to prepare action reports detailing how they will use the funds.
