Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Lawmakers introduced 826 bills during the 60-day session, which began January 5th. One-hundred-64 bills, or almost 20% of the total introduced, were passed. One-hundred-62 became law.
More bills were passed in 2008, which also was a 60-day session, but a higher percentage of approved bills this year became law.
Governor Beshear issued only one veto this year - a Senate measure giving lawmakers greater oversight of government contracts.
The 2010 session adjourned sine die on April 15th, without passage of a biennial state budget. That's happened twice previously in the last decade.
Governor Beshear intends to call a special session on the budget in May.
