Hopkinsville, KY – The two democrats squaring off in the Hopkinsville mayoral race debated city policies last night at Bradford Square Shopping Center. Incumbent Mayor Dan Kemp faces Richard Covington for the seat. No Republican is running in the election, which means the May 18th primary will decide the race. The Kentucky New Era reports the candidates agreed with each other on issues related to business and infrastructure. Disagreement arose over the city finances, with Covington criticizing a tax increase Kemp approved in 2007. Kemp pointed to his budget cutting efforts in the same time, saying the city saved $2.8 million by cutting 23.5 positions. The League of Women voters sponsored the debate.
