Frankfort, KY – U.S. Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina is at odds with Minority Floor Leader Mitch McConnell on who should be the GOP nominee for U.S. Senate in Kentucky. DeMint endorsed political outsider Rand Paul Wednesday, a day after McConnell threw his support behind establishment candidate Trey Grayson.
DeMint, who is chairman of the Senate Conservatives Fund political action committee, called Paul "a true conservative who will stand up to the Washington establishment."
Paul and Grayson are among five Republicans seeking to replace retiring U.S. Senator Jim Bunning. The winner will face one of five Democratic candidates, including Lieutenant Governor Daniel Mongiardo and Attorney General Jack Conway.
