Webster County, KY – The Webster County Dotiki mine has resumed most operations nearly a week after two miners were killed in a roof collapse. A statement from Tulsa, Oklahoma-based Alliance Resource Partners says state and federal officials determined the mine could safely resume operations on Tuesday.
State officials say the mine where the collapse occurred remains shut down, but Dotiki's other mines have resumed operations. The April 28th collapse killed 27-year-old Justin Travis and 28-year-old Michael Carter.
A statement from Alliance says its investigation showed the "roof fall was an unpredictable accident involving unforeseeable geological conditions." Kentucky mining officials say they haven't yet determined a cause.
