Eddyville, KY – The flood waters from The Tennessee and Cumberland have halted recreational traffic on Kentucky and Barkley Lake. Rising water is also threatening marinas. Various marinas throughout the region are being forced to cut power to piers and buildings. Mandy Carney is co-owner of Eddy Creek Marina Resort in Eddyville. Electric crews cut power to many of her piers today. She says though the docked boats remain safe.
"So as far as the floating structure, we don't have an issue. Now, of course, if we have a storm, the stability of the docks is not at its best. Most of them are anchored with telescoping spud poles that go down into the ground under water and then they telescope up as the water level goes, but when it's at this level they've reached their maximum."
Carney says this Wednesday was the first day they had to close. She's says the marina will definitely have lost revenue, but she hopes for a strong Memorial Day to make up for lost ground.
