Nashville, TN – Much of Nashville is still under water after last weekend's flooding, including the Orpyland Hotel. That means a number of conventions that were scheduled to be held there have to be moved elsewhere. Kentucky Fair Board President Harold Workman says he's hoping some of them can land in Louisville.
"Our sales staff, the Kentucky State Fair Board sales staff, as well as the Convention and Visitor's Bureau are actively seeking out those conventions that are looking for somewhere to go. To see if we have the space they're looking for, the dates they're looking for, the facilities, etc., to see if we can bring those into Louisville."
Workman says the Opryland Hotel is one of Louisville's biggest competitors for conventions in this region. He spoke yesterday to a Metro Council committee to update the members on negotiations to re-open the Kentucky Kingdom amusement park site. He says the fair board is still in litigation with Six Flags over who owns the rides on the property. Workman doesn't think the park will re-open this year.
