Clarksville, TN – Experts are surveying the flood damage to Montgomery County farms. USDA Farm Service Executive Director Mike Turner tells the Clarksville-Leaf Chronicle tons of debris left behind by the surging Cumberland River will hinder this year's yield. He expects many farmers will simply destroy once-submerged hay crops because they could be potentially harmful to livestock. He estimates at least 9,000 acres of corn has been lost and many wheat crops damaged. It's unknown if any livestock herds have been affected. There is some good news: very few soybean fields have been planted yet, so impact to that crop is expected to be minimal.
